B-More, Thank You!

Mast Production from Theresa Hioki on Vimeo.

This past weekend, I had the hot and humid pleasure of venturing to Baltimore to check out the 4th annual Whartscape Music/Art Fest. More on that to come later this week, including some tantalizing Street Style shots (lets just say that B-More locals are not afraid of a little hipster steeze in their lives!), but in the meantime I had to share the sounds of one of my favorite acts that played at the festivus. AK Slaughter is a superbly rad band that basically rocked my Vans off, make sure to check out their website and peep a promo video they recently put together!

Yummy

This will probably make me seem very corny... but since when do I care?!

I enjoyed this SO MUCH! Like, so much that it became ridiculous how much I was enjoying myself.

I am a cheeseball. But not as big of a cheeseball as Cat Deely! Those are the thoughts that console me at night...

I Take Precaution When Choosing My Mate

It's been a while since I posted a throwback...! Real talk, MC Lyte is the pinnacle of the Female MC. Yes, Kim and Foxy came through, and Latifah held it down, but Lyte truly set the standard. We all know she ran circles around any dude who stood in her way, and kept it saucy while doing it! Enjoy the tune, and also holla at me if you know where I can get a good starter jacket because I'm overdue for a new one!

Obey Fall 09

I would love nothing more than dressing up in kicks and other wacky shit on the daily, but unfortunately I have a semi-professional 9 to 5er that requires me to dress sensible and as put together as I possibly can be, which hasn't always gone so well for me-- who knew that rockin' Jordans and fishnets to the office was a no no!

Enter Obey. The streetwear line has become a big lifesaver in my wardrobe because it embodies the aesthetic I need to keep it professional and together on the day to day, but has random fun detailings and inspirations to keep my fashion tastebuds tickled each time I get dressed! I am really excited for this collection to drop because the pieces, like everything I have from Obey, are solid in quality and simple enough to be dressed up with accessories. I am fawning over the styling in this lookbook, just because it's so relatable to me. I can see myself wearing each and every one of these looks, albeit kicked up a notch! Favorite looks are by far the printed wrap dress (hiking boots and a three finger ring would take this to the next level) and the yellow cardigan and destroyed jean look.

Reliable and chic! Are you guys feeling Obey's fall lineup?

Sweet Dreams

I never really liked Beyonce (even after the "ring on it" craze), but I will take off my hat to her and admit that, as a piece of visual media, her latest music video Sweet Dreams is beautiful! The gentle, hazy cinematography establishes the airy, dream-like quality as we journey from the desert, to finally a realm of futura unlike anything I ever thought Beyonce was capable of. She's a simple lady, but the team behind her is fantastic and if she keeps putting out more videos like this I might have to take notice!

Enjoy, and don't blink or you'll miss the subtle reference to Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man at 1:13-1:15!

Missed the Marc?

Nitrolicious has just posted some preview images of Marc Jacob's new back-to-school capsule collection, priced at a lower price point to satisfy his growing legion of fans that have made the designer a household name.

Real talk? This collection is so sad. I've seen more fashionable and creative pieces at Rainbow, in their sale section. Yes Marc, I am broke. But no, I do not want to wear a lame striped jersey scarf, nor do I want to wear a fugly pair of tapered denim high-waters! The Ts are kind of OK, but not for the jacked up price they'll probably be charging!

The only way I could envision these items being remotely cool is if a fabulous 84 year old Miami woman named Doris decided to rock the striped leggings with the cheetah print top. Doris would definitely be able to pull this shit off...

MJ x EL Collabo

Awesome moments like these are what made the circus today worth it all...
