JS Video Lookbook!

JEREMY SCOTT web video thingy... Dir. NABIL from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.

Behold the video lookbook for Jeremy Scott's Fall 09 Collaboration with Adidas. Directed by music vid afficionado Nabil, and featuring groovy world music from the likes of Santigold, M.I.A, and The Very Best, the short clip shows off Scott's technicolor tunics, lion-screenprint sweatsuits, and globe print dreses.

This is one gnarly video lookbook certainly worthy of J Scott's greatness! I am really feeling the idea of the models jumping in and out of each different frame-- literally, cartoon drawn frames. Moments of it remind me of the cartoons of my youth, a la some Looney Tunes "Be vewwy quiet, we're hunting fow wabbits" stuff, while other moments are completely cutting edge and futuristic. All of this within 30 seconds. Brilliant, as usual.

Oh Hellz, how I love thee! Let me count the ways! Is it your smoldering, sexy teaser trailer from your upcoming short film "Kicks After Six"? Or your accompanying lookbook peaks giving me a brief, mouth-watering look at your upcoming mysterious capsule collection?

Seriously, Hellz, come away with me! I'll be your muse and you my clothier. I smell a love match...

Tragic Surprise

Luxury sunglasses brand Mosley Tribes recruited celebrated photographer Jory Cody and up-and-coming LA actor Alex Beh to produce a couple of beautiful shots for a special lookbook. The shoot showcases the brand's Lyndel and Raynes designs, which are influenced by the classic designs of the 1950s aviators and the 1980s wayfarer. The clothing for the shoot was provided by politically influenced brand Apolis Activism, which has become considerably popular since its 2004 debut.

Besides top notch garments, accessories, and a hunky model, the photographs are strikingly reminiscent of an old-school type of glamour and a subtle, doomed machismo, representing the type of man who rides willingly into the danger facing him as if it were a heightened type of excitement. Icons such as the smoldering stars James Dean or Marlon Brando, come to mind when I see these photos. There is a sense of fated beauty to these images, mostly due to the softness of the natural lighting contrasting with Beh's knowing expression in each of the pics. These photos give me goosebumps, as if Beh knows that when he turns around to walk down that highway, or drive away in that car, an eerie future will befall him. These photos capture the idea that the overwhelming beauty in this world is constantly contrasting with doomed fates and sad endings. Isn't that what makes tragedy so real though?

I really like Jory Cody's photography, after checking out his portfolio. He has a unique ability to capture multiple dimensions of his subjects in just one shot. Make sure you check out his portfolio online at his website.

Please Baby Baby Baby Please!

Our favorite jewelry visionary, Melody Eshani, just released some preview images of a new piece on her blog last week. Inspired by the ever-so-stylish, ever-so-influential Spike Lee alter ego Mars Blackmon, the new necklace is a right-on-target recreation that bears Eshani's signature mirrored faceplate. Mars Blackmon symbolized the fun, carefree, artistically inspired side of hip-hop culture. He was unafraid to be silly, unafraid to be who he was, unafraid to point out his flaws, unafraid to put himself on the line to win over everyone from a woman, to an audience, to Michael Jordan himself (can you tell I'm crushin'--how could you not!)! He was the epitome of early BK swagger, spirit, and genuine desire to have fun (something that we're missing these days).

As a Mars Blackmon uber-fan, all I can say is... PLEASE BABY BABY BABY PLEASE! Please give this chain a wide release, and please let it be soon because it is a must-cop!

Shoe Art

Christian Louboutin's upcoming ad campaign is one of the more thoughtful, evoking fashion campaigns in recent seasons. Drawing from the classicism of 18th century still life, Louboutin teamed up with photographer Peter Lippmann and creative director Nicolas Menu to produce an intense series of portraits that place the shoe within a complete and extremely detailed scene. Featuring melanges of fruits, sweets, wines, and other delectables, the shoes look just as tempting as the rest of the objects in the scene. The shadowing (which is reminding me a lot of the dramatic vividness of 17th century Dutch master Rembrandt) gives the shots a sense of dark sexiness-- these shoes aren't for the faint of heart. The campaign is truly a reminder that fashion can be nothing short of art.

Outraged

Ad campigns like these are why I have severe dislike for anything/anyone with a penis...

As reported by Jezebel, the tagline for the above series of ads that ran in Men's Health Magazine reads "It's All About Men".

Obviously the only reason any woman would ever consider being physically fit is for a man. DUH.

Are you as infuriated as I am? Discuss...
