The V-Neck Wars

Tabatha over at MOB recently ranted about American Appy ads and the whole ongoing controversy surrounding the proliferation of nearly nude ladies in compromising positions awaiting some type of "good times" in what horny men can only imagine to be the near future.

Yes, the ads are ultimately sexist. Yes, Dov Charney is one step away from perv of the year (the dude has leered at more multi-culti co-eds than any 40+ year old man should ever be allowed to leer at). Yes, a hairy, creepy Dov Charney is a pretty decent explanation of why I can't date a Jewish guy (much to my mother's chagrin). And yes, everyone who buys more than just Ts and leggings (and the occasional pair of socks) at AA is kind of a really big douchebag.

But, yes, as creepy as Dov's ads are, they do promote a healthier body image than the Dior ads in the subway that have been airbrushed to death. I can't stand the fact that it's still sex that sells... but at least it's sex whose owner's got a fatty, like most girls (including me, holla!)! I hate that an upskirt contributes to really silly-high sales... but at least it's an upskirt that doesn't belong to someone with blonde hair and blue eyes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, American Apparel ads are creepy. But I'm mostly alright with that...

New for Spring: MOB version 2.0

One of our favorite lines, MTTM, has just released images of their second installment Spring Collection. Less of the fun, feminine style that was featured in their first collection of the season, the new release is a return to the gritty streetwear that first made the brand popular. With a newer, distressed take on their infamous 24th St Jean and a slew of brand-spanking-new logo T-shirts, this is definitely a line to rock with your kicks. However, the ladies have still managed to branch out this time around with the debut of their first round of dresses! A long tunic-esque T-shirt dress and a nylon bubble-skirted number prove to be a promising start for the streetwear heavyweight.

My favorite item is definitely the above polo shirt-- peep the logo lips on the popped collar! Pure fiyah!

Check out the rest of the sexily shot collection below...

Barbie Girl

One of our favorite streetwear brands, Married to the Mob, has teamed up with Colette in Paris to release a limited edition T-shirt. Designed to coincide with the French brand's collaboration series commemorating the 50th Birthday anniversary of everyone's favorite childhood playmate, Barbie, the T-shirts will come in three colorways and should be available for purchase shortly. Designer Jeremy Scott has also designed a limited-edition Barbie-inspired collection to be unleashed at Colette's Paris shop, so stay tuned for images from that as well.

Additionally, Karl Lagerfeld also collaborated with the brand to release a series of snap-shots featuring a life-sized Barbie doll in various fashions, posing with real-life French model Baptiste Giabiconi. The images will be displayed in Colette's store windows from March 9th to 15th. View a few sample shots below.

Back with a Vengance!

The ladies of the New York based streetwear phenomena MOB are back for Spring '09 and they are bringing the heat! The unveiling of the collection offers new spins on the MOB basics you've loved so far-- eye-catching hoodies, innovative bomber jackets, and smart-minded T-shirts-- and adds a few new pieces into the mix. The Chanel-inspired cardigan, in particular, displays the brand's intention to branch out grow in a new direction that has more of a classically feminine potential. Musical artist Kid Sister is the face of the line, embodying the relaxed, casual beauty the line inspires towards. The makeup and hair-- bright red lips and big, waved hair-- reminds me of a prom queen gone street! Having always been a fan of MOB, I must say I'm proud that the ladies have keep comfortable streetwear a priority, while sexin' it up for a woman of intelligence. In a nutshell, I give kudos to MOB-- this 'ish is fiyah ya'll-- and say go out and cop it!

Peep below for shots of the full collection and you know you can purchase exclusively here.
