Retro was in full swing, quite literally, at the unveiling of Zac Posen's Pre-Fall 09 Collection recently. Inspired by the classically feminine looks made popular during the 1930s and 40s, Posen offered up a bevy of seductive, silky cocktail dresses in muted autumn tones. Wool separates, from suits to skirts-and-polos, recalled classic cinematic icons of the period, namely Dietrich's understated glamour and Ingrid Bergman's effortless simplicity. Standout pieces included a flowing high fashion take on a WWII inspired air-force jumpsuit and a parade of body-skimming asymmetrical, strapless, and cowl-neck gowns. Hair pin-curled to perfection and matte red lips completed the look, making Posen's collection a successful trip back to America's heyday of glamour and military glory. Come fall of '09, we will definitely see these looks on some of Hollywood's hottest celebs, including Posen fanatics such as Rihanna, Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
A selection of my favorite looks follows below, and you can view the rest of the collection here.
